The Story Behind Kuno Haus
Kuno Haus was born from a simple but powerful belief: that needing care doesn’t mean life stops being meaningful, joyful, or worth living fully.
We’re a boutique assisted living and memory care home in Cypress, Texas, named after our founder’s grandfather: a man who showed up for his loved ones, knew how to make people feel seen, and understood that wisdom and presence matter at every age. That legacy shapes everything we do here.
We’re not building another facility. We’re creating a home where residents continue to be themselves, where morning coffee tastes right, where caregivers know your story, and where Sunday afternoons still mean enjoying coffee and cake with family.

We curate daily moments of delight – from fresh flowers on the table to surprise treats from our chef, small touches remind everyone that joy is in the details. Music, games, laughter, and lighthearted interactions are woven into everyday life, not reserved for “special occasions.” Staff are encouraged to bring their personalities, talents, and humor into the home.
Our Story
Kuno Haus was born out of love and a simple truth: the people who nurtured us deserve far better than impersonal care as they age. We’re Susann and Mario Quijada, a husband-and-wife team with no background in institutional elder care but a deep conviction that there’s a better way to treat our elders.
Susann grew up in Germany, raised by a single mother and heavily supported by her grandfather, Kuno. Those early experiences taught her how a family rallying around its elders creates an environment of respect, warmth and joy. Kuno is the inspiration and namesake for our home: he embodied the dignity and compassion we hope to offer each of our residents.
When we looked at the typical options available to aging loved ones we saw sterile hallways, rotating staff and routines that feel more like schedules than lives. We quickly realized something vital was missing. We decided to build what we wished existed: an intimate, family-like environment where each resident is truly seen, heard and honored.
For us, Kuno Haus is more than a business, it’s a commitment to provide the kind of care we’d choose for our own (grand)parents. We believe aging should be a continuation of a vibrant life, filled with joy, warmth and laughter.
